With the help of school officials, inspectors, and doctors, all of them passed through inspection procedures and made it into America! They were each pleased to find a banana waiting on their desk, knowing that bananas were an exotic fruit many European immigrants had never seen before. The students thoroughly enjoyed this experience, and it was evident that it solidified their understanding of previously learned concepts. As one student asked, "Can we do it again?"
Later in the unit, the students interviewed their own families' immigrations to either the United States or Israel, and shared their own illustrated stories in a professionally published book. Parents were then invited to a grand publishing party.
